Oscar Nominations… It feels like Christmas again!

I know I disappeared for roughly a week… I can’t help it. It was vacation. However people returning to their dorms at Hofstra can only be a sign of one thing… the start of the Spring Semester. Luckily for me I have the Oscar nominations to hold me over for the rest of the week and let me nod my head as I listen to Professor’s talk about Syllabus.

So we’re going to start of slow… I’m still in the midst of watching the films, but here are the top ten nominated for best picture (most aren’t a surprise)

1. Inception

2. Toy Story 3

3. The Social Network- the underdog

4. The Fighter

5. Black Swan

6. The Kids are all Right

7. True Grit

8. Winter’s Bone - the surprise nomination

9. 127 Hours

10. The King’s Speech. -Favorite among the people

Later I’ll give you some more nominations. No thoughts from me yet. I only saw 4/10 so I’m not ready to give my thoughts yet. Stay tuned…

January 25th….Sweet!

My day just got a little bit better with word that Oscar Nominations come out January 25th.

I wonder who the 10 best picture nominees will be?

I guess I better start watching some movies….good thing, I have 21 days left of break.

Clearly I should never log off the internet…

Natalie Portman engaged and pregnant?!?! It really is her year…

“I have always kept my private life private but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience,”  the Black Swan actress told Entertainment Weekly in a statement Monday.

She revealed to People Magazine that she is engaged to choreographer Benjamin Millepied. They met on the set of “Black Swan”

Clearly when I’m snowbound I should go on the internet and not play video games…

Heads up: I’m not seeing this movie because of Rob Pattinson. Listen up twilight fans or whatever your call yourselves, I’m seeing it because I read the book and the book was awesome. From what this trailer shows, the movie shows promise. I’m actually quite thrilled with who they picked for the cast. Too bad there’s no release date yet….

Yes, I know “The Tourist” bombed at the box office. Yes, It seems that I only post about Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp when it comes to movies, but come on, it’s the new POTC trailer, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and it just came out! Also it makes the pain of finals disappear for like two minutes and thirty seconds.

Look at the Parisian version of Password Game with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie from MTVU.

I honestly thought Johnny and Angelina were going to play the game with one another before I clicked on the video. I was a little disappointed, but still enjoyed it immensely. What do you think?

The Oscar 2011 Host… I mean hosts

James Franco and Anne Hathaway have just been confirmed as the hosts for the 2011 Oscars. That’s interesting and also slightly disappointing. I like both them equally, but together? I’m not so sure. Hathaway can sing, but will she and Franco have good comedic timing?  I’m still on the fence about this. Also what happens if Franco gets nominated for “127 Hours”? Eh, I’m still not convinced.

Thoughts on this to be continued…..

It’s the ever same question when a sequel comes out? Will it thrive or fail? This is the first trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2 and it did make me laugh, but as it is only November,  there will be plenty more trailers to decide if it will be as much as a success as the first one.

Kung Fu Panda 2 comes out in May 2011.

“The Nutcracker” as a movie, not a ballet?

I didn’t know what I was going to get when I clicked on the trailer for “The Nutcracker”. I was expecting a full version of the ballet for the movie screen. No, it’s actually done as a live action story.

My question is will “The Nutcracker” fail as “The Christmas Carol” did? Or will we get a good movie based off a classic story like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas?”

“The Nutcracker” comes out at November. 24th.
