Joe Mihalich was named head coach of the Hofstra men’s basketball team earlier today. Mihalich was the head coach of Niagara  for 15 years where he lead the Purple Eagles to 2 NCAA tournament  and 3 NIT tournmanet appearances.

Assistant men’s basketball coach Patrick Sellers has been named interim head coach after the departure of Mo Cassara. Sellers has been with the program for two years and was an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut. During his time at UConn, current Hofstra Director of Athletics Jeff Hathaway was the Director of Athletes at UConn. 

Hofstra men’s basketball coach Mo Cassara has been fired after three seasons.

We are in Upper Marlboro, Maryland getting ready to cover Hofstra women’s basketball as they get ready to take on Northeastern in the CAA Tournament.

Senior forwards Candace Bond (2) and Shante Evans (30) were honored tonight as both took home CAA honors. Bond was not only named to the All-Defensive team for the third year in a row but she also took home the CAA Defensive Player of the Year award. Evans was named to First Team All-CAA for the third year in a row. Evans is the career leader in points and rebounds at Hofstra and had her number retired prior to the last home game of the year.

Meet your new pope: Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now known as Pope Francis I

Bergolio will become the 266th pope, and lead the 1.2 billion Roman Catholics across the world. Most notably, Bergolio, from Argentina, will become the first pope from South America, and the first modern pope from outside of Europe. Bergolio, age 76, became a cardinal in 2001, will leave his post as Archbishop of Buenos Aires.
